Jamboree is a great DNA and Genealogical conference. Held in Burbank, California yearly, this is their 50th Birthday so you know it will be special! This year the dates are from May 30th to June 2nd.
There are 120+ classes with 70+ speakers, most of them free, and some you can attend without registering! Preregistration ends May 22 just before midnight.
The days are loaded with classes from some nationally and internationally known speakers both in the field of genealogy and in genetic genealogy (the use of DNA for genealogy). Friday through Sunday focuses on genealogy.
To find out more and to register go to: http://genealogyjamboree.com/
Soon they will post their free mobile app which allows you to see all the classes and make choices for your personal agenda.
Just look at the categories for presentations:
This is basically two days of DNA presentations, although a few other classes are scattered throughout the weekend. I will be presenting two sessions (free with registration) and a workshop:
Convincing Family and Strangers to Test and Why - Thursday, May 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
DNA Led the Way: A Y-DNA Study - Thursday, May 30 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Identifying Family DNA Patterns and Contacting Matches - Friday, May 31 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00. This is a workshop and does required an extra fee.
Then there are free classes on Friday where no registration is needed. Some of these are two hour sessions. Check the website for the topics.
Then there are workshops for both DNA and genealogy. (See my topic above) The DNA workshops are 3 1/2 hrs, and there are five of them. The genealogy workshops are 2 hours, and there are eight of them over three days. Only one DNA workshop has been sold out, so you still have time!
There is free expert advice and research assistance in both genealogy and in using DNA for registered attendees.
Then there is the exhibit hall which is free with no registration needed. Just come in and browse. Many vendors have lowered their prices, including the DNA companies. The best prices on DNA test kits is usually at a conference.
AND...the location is great! The Marriott Hotel is just across the road from the Bob Hope Airport (walk or take the free shuttle). Although there are speakers for the special breakfasts and dinners (called banquets), you can eat in the hotel restaurant, in the open-air bar and in the courtyard between the buildings. Then there are a few places across the road as well.
This is what I consider the best U.S. conference as it is four days of both genealogy and DNA presentations from experts, it is a friendly atmosphere, and there are many free drawings including one which can even land you a vacation somewhere!
I do hope to see you there!
Best wishes,
Emily
